I don't know exactly when climate change became a political issue, but probably had something to do with Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. Not because it showed an inconvenient truth, but because it was created and narrated by Al Gore. Ever since then, it has become an "Us-vs.-Them" issue. Liberals believe climate change is real, and a threat, because the science points to it. Conservatives don't believe it because Al Gore does.
So now WorldNutDaily has decided to help us all understand what climate change really is: the changing seasons. Oh, ho, ho, that's so clever. I didn't realize that was what was going on! I thought the Earth was getting warmer than it ever had been in recorded history! I thought we were discussing a monumental shift in the worldwide climate! Why didn't all those stiff-ass "scientists" just lay off, stop scaring everybody, and admit that global warming is really just summer coming?
Wait, wait, I'll show you how right I am with this clever WorldNetDaily bumper sticker:
Ha ha! Get it? Cuz climate change is just the seasons!
Oh, that's a relief. Why bother studying meteorological science and examining computer models and projections when you can just look at a bumper sticker?

What's really, really annoying is that I've seen a few opposition views that are at least rational. Not in any way based on faith or religion. Based on differing interpretations of the same data, but recognizing that the facts are clear; measured temperatures are higher now than they have been at comparable times in the past.
But do the fundies cite those? No. Of course not. Because to argue from your opponents' point of view you have to open yourself to the potential that your own mind may be changed.
Climate change is seasons. GAH! Must go scrub brain out with bleach and steel wool to remove the stupid.
Great. So if this is all just one nice long summer, we get to look forward to a nice Ice Age to even it out.
We can just go ahead and ignore the fact that gigantic pieces of ice are floating alarmingly about in warmer waters then, after breaking off due to unprecedented melting.
Summer, hm? What a relief!
I have a dream that there will be a day when even the morons at WorldNutDaily understand the difference between climate and weather.
It won't be anytime soon, but I have that dream.
I have a dream that someday people will argue from informed positions, allow others free access to the information that formed their opinions, and resolutions of debates will be based on general acceptance of which argument fits the data better.
OK, I dream big.
